Faith in the Storm: Our Belief, Our Finances, and Staying Steadfast in God

Storms come in many forms. Some are physical winds and rains that shake our homes. Others are spiritual and financial, unexpected bills, job loss, inflation, debt, or simply the weight of feeling like there’s never enough. But as believers, we know storms do not come to destroy us, they come to remind us that our foundation is in Christ.

Jesus Himself said, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock” (Matthew 7:24–25, NIV).

When our faith is anchored in God, even when finances are shaken, we will not fall.

Belief and Finances: A Matter of Faith

The truth is, money reveals what we believe. Not how much we have, but how much we trust God with what He has given us. When we tithe, when we give, when we remain faithful to our obligations to God’s house, we are declaring, “Lord, You are my source, not my paycheck, not my job, not even the economy.”

Malachi 3:10 reminds us:

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

God is the only One who invites us to test Him, and it is in the area of finances. Why? Because He knows money competes with faith. When we release our tithe, we are releasing control and showing that our trust is in Him.

Tithing Through the Storm

It is easy to give when the bank account is full. The real test is when the storm hits. When bills stack up, when income drops, when every dollar has ten demands, it is then that our faith is proven.

But let us not forget the widow in 1 Kings 17, who in the middle of a drought gave Elijah her last bit of oil and flour. She didn’t give out of abundance, she gave out of obedience. And in return, God multiplied her supply and sustained her household.

That is the promise for us: obedience brings provision.

Other Financial Obligations and Stewardship

Faithfulness doesn’t end with tithing. Scripture also teaches us to be wise stewards. Romans 13:7 says, “Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”

This means that being faithful in finances extends to our responsibilities: paying what we owe, handling debt wisely, and ensuring that we live with integrity in both church and community.

But stewardship is not just about survival, it’s about legacy. Proverbs 13:22 declares, “A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children.” Our financial faithfulness today creates a testimony and a foundation for the generations after us.

Staying Faithful Through the Storm

The storm will try to convince you to hold back, to hoard, to doubt God’s provision. But storms also reveal where our trust really lies.

If we cling to belief, if we stand firm in our giving, if we stay obedient even when it hurts—then like the disciples in the boat, we will hear Jesus speak, “Peace, be still.” (Mark 4:39).

And here is the good news: storms always pass. But the faith you build in the storm will last a lifetime.

Conclusion: A Call to Faithful Living

As a church family, let us hold fast to our belief. Let us remain faithful with our finances, through tithing, giving, and stewardship. And let us love one another through the storms, reminding each other that God’s promises are sure.

Paul said it best in Philippians 4:19:

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

So let us trust Him, let us honor Him, and let us stay faithful. The storm may rage, but our God is greater.
