Seek Ye First: Prioritizing the Kingdom of God

At Jonahville, we know what it feels like to have a million things pulling at us every single day. There are bills to pay, families to care for, deadlines to meet, ministries to run, and personal dreams to chase. Life can often feel like a race with no finish line. But in the middle of all this noise, God has given us a clear instruction:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33

The Right Order Matters

The issue is not that our responsibilities are unimportant. In fact, God calls us to be diligent workers, good stewards, and loving family members. The problem arises when we put those things before Him. When our priorities are out of order, even the good things become heavy burdens. But when God is first, everything else falls into its rightful place.

Think of it like building a house. If the foundation is crooked or weak, the entire structure will be unstable. Seeking God first is laying the foundation strong and true, every other part of life can stand firm when it is built upon Him.

God Before Everything

Prioritizing God doesn’t mean neglecting our responsibilities; it means bringing Him into every responsibility. It means starting the day with prayer before opening our email. It means asking for His wisdom before making decisions. It means remembering that family, ministry, and work are not separate from our faith, but extensions of it.

At Jonahville, we encourage one another to let God lead in our homes, our finances, our goals, and even our rest. Because when He is at the center, peace replaces chaos, and purpose replaces confusion.

The Promise of Addition

Notice the promise in the scripture: “all these things shall be added unto you.” God doesn’t just demand priority, He promises provision. When we put Him first, He takes care of the rest. He multiplies time, increases strength, and provides resources we didn’t even know we needed.

So when the weight of “too many things to do” feels overwhelming, remember: you don’t have to do it all in your own strength. You just have to do the first thing, seek Him.

✅ Reflection for Jonahville Members:

This week, ask yourself, “Where is God in my priorities?” If He is first, trust that everything else will align. If not, it’s never too late to shift. God honors the heart that puts Him above all.
